Growing Country: ChinaShipping Port: ShanghaiGrowing Altitude of the Tea: up to 2500 feet above sea levelManufacture Type: Steamed green tea infused with jasmineOrganic Certification: BCS - Germany, Certificate No.: DE-7919-24During the Sung Dynasty (960 to 1127), tea production was elevated to an art form. Everything became closely regulated including the harvest of the fresh tea leaves. In the Imperial Gardens, drums and cymbals were used to coordinate the tea pluckers during the chilly pre-dawn hours when the new shoots would open. The tea pickers had to be chaste young maidens and were required to undergo special training to learn the proper tea plucking technique. For example, the girls were required to keep their fingernails at a precise length so they could snap the tea leaf without bruising it with their fingers. Because this prized tea was such an expensive a commodity at the time, the tea gardens required strict security. As such, the tea pluckers wore bright identification labels so thieves could be readily identified if they tried to gain access to the tea. The freshly picked tea leaves were graded into classes and processed with the best grades of tea going directly to the Emperor himself. Top tea grades could be worth as much as 3 ounces of gold per pound - a lifetime of earnings for the common man...So why are are sharing this lit bit of tea history with you? Simply because the grade of tea that the tea masters at The Metropolitan Tea Company have sourced for this Jasmine scented tea ranks up against the former imperial teas of old China. With a touch of golden grassiness, silky layers of jasmine and a long, well balanced finish, both the renowned tea experts at The Metropolitan Tea Company and we believe that this superb tea is truly "fit for a king". We highly recommend it and hope that you enjoy it...
